Welcome to W.A.S.P LLC!

I am founder Derek Johnson, but you can just call me Casino. My love for outdoor adventures and survival developed at a young age. By high school I was outfitting friends and taking then on camp outs and hikes.
My survival training started with my dad and brother, we would often head out into the Black Hills of South Dakota with nothing more than an Army poncho and knife. In college I was introduced to primitive survival skills by the LaRamie Black Powder Brigade, a local fur trade era (pre-1840) reenactment group. For the past 20 years I have been practicing my primitive and modern survival skills. I have been winter beaver trapping in the Snowy Range and Big Horn Mountain with only pre-1840 clothing and equipment and traveled on multiple trekking excursions with minimal gear throughout Wyoming, South Dakota, Colorado, and Utah.
My true passion lies in sharing my knowledge and skills with others. Too often I see news stories about lost hikers or hunters, many with unfavorable endings. My classes offer not only information, but the chance to practice some of the skills that may just save your life. In our busy technology driven lives we often forget how powerful nature can be and how rewarding it is to perform basic survival skills (the excitement felt when creating your first primitive fire is incredible!). This summer W.A.S.P. has paired with Laramie County Community College (LCCC), Albany Count Campus (ACC) to offer the class Bushcraft 101.
I also offer private consulting sessions and group lectures. From individual consultations to large businesses with specialized needs I am happy to help!
W.A.S.P. also has survival products available. Our goal was to create functional kits that are easy and stylish to carry. Too often I talk with hunters or hikers who say, "Yeah, I have great survival kit."
When I ask to see it, they say, "Oh, well its back in my tent." The W.A.S.P. products are designed to be carried on your person so it's available when you need it. If you are interested in survival products please contact me!
